Every philosopher has at one time compared life to a book with its division into many chapters, its characters fading in and out, the twists and turns that a story inevitably takes.
But when reading a book, how do you know that a chapter is about to end? Do you have a way of knowing if the event that occurred on this page justified ending a chapter. Or in the bigger scheme of things was it just a small blip, soon forgotten?
You never know the ramifications of what just happened until you are forced to face it someday. All you can do later is look back and wonder if things today would have been any different. Reality is here to stay.
We'll never know if a chapter has ended until we turn the page.
